About the Artist

Jodi Patten Wieck

Jodi Patten Wieck was born and raised in Iowa, where she lived until 1989, when she and her husband moved to Colorado.  They were drawn by the mountains and the adventures that awaited them in the west. They have had many wonderful experiences in the last 35 years, both in the USA and abroad.  They both volunteered for Larimer County Search and Rescue for many years; spent a period of time raising and heading into the mountains with their pack goats; traveled throughout the USA, cycling, hiking, camping, boating and skiing; and have had some world class experiences across Europe and other countries around the world.

Jodi has always been drawn to the beauty of nature.  The colors, shapes and sounds are her inspiration.  She claims to be a type A personality, so has made an effort to use the other side of her brain over the years to “balance herself out”, particularly while working a stressful career.  One of Jodi’s past creative endeavors was making jewelry, which she sold at some shops in Fort Collins.  The rest of her creative projects over the years have stayed at home or with family and friends.

After her retirement, Jodi gradually immersed herself into using her creative side more often.  She now has a house full of acrylic pour paintings, has been doing some metal on wood pieces, using upcycled wood and mostly beer cans, and recently picked up watercolors to continue her learning process.  She also went through a “glass phase”, where she used scraps from her sister’s stained glass work to create abstract pieces on wood.

Jodi's Inspiration

“Throughout our many adventures and travels over the years, I have always been happiest in the outdoors experiencing nature’s wonders big and small. I also am in awe of the multitude of world class art we experienced across Europe and other countries we visited.

My most prominent influence in the art community came from my beautiful aunt and her wonderful husband, who was a famous Taos artist.  I always had a desire to create more, but didn’t find my true niche until a close friend introduced me to fluid art.  I was quickly sucked into the joy of color and creating unique, one of a kind paintings.  I have had so much fun experimenting with the paints and different techniques.  My hope is that my art will brighten up people’s lives and bring a smile to their face.”
